About

Daily, RSI-based momentum strategy that bets on a single leveraged ETF (long when bond momentum beats small-cap momentum) or a single inverse ETF (short otherwise); selects one asset via a 4-day performance ranking and rebalances daily, focusing on growth themes with high leverage and bear bets for downside.
NutHow it works
What the strategy does, in plain language: - It runs every trading day and decides to buy one asset or to short one asset, not a basket of many. - It looks at momentum in bonds vs. small stocks using RSI over two timeframes (11 days for IEF vs 16 days for IWM). If bonds look relatively stronger, it tilts long; otherwise it tilts short. - For the side it tilts to, it picks just one ETF from a list of popular leveraged bets. Those lists cover tech, biotech, semiconductors, emerging markets, China, high beta, and innovation for the long side; and inverse/short exposure for the short side (QQQ-short, biotech bear, real estate bear, etc.). - The asset selection uses a short-term performance screen: assets are ranked by their 4-day moving-average return, and the one that ranks at the bottom (per the code) is chosen, then the system allocates essentially all capital to that single asset. - The structure seems to apply cash reservations (weights like 80/100 or 90/100) depending on the branch, but the core idea is to concentrate on one instrument at a time. - It avoids certain exposures (as the name says, no IEF no TYO), focusing on momentum-driven bets rather than a broad diversified mix. - Risks include high volatility, especially with 3x levered ETFs and daily resetting; small moves can compound quickly against or in favor of the position. In sum: a daily, RSI-driven, single-asset momentum play that flips between a leveraged-long tilt on growth-oriented sectors and a leveraged-short tilt when momentum favors downside, with a strong emphasis on short-term performance ranking to pick one instrument to own or short each day.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample annualized return ≈71% vs S&P 500 ≈24%; Calmar ≈1.48 with max drawdown ≈48% (SPY ≈19%). Daily, single-asset RSI-momentum in leveraged/inverse ETFs aims for outsized upside with disciplined risk.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
