TQQQ RSI Strategy with 3x Leveraged Defensive ETFs and QYLD for Sideways Markets

About

Daily, RSI-based switches: buy 3x TQQQ when deeply oversold, shift to a leveraged defensive/bond mix when the S&P 500 is overheated, use QYLD in sideways markets, and otherwise hold VOO. High risk due to leverage; aims to time regimes.
NutHow it works
Each day the strategy reads a 0–100 “heat gauge” (RSI) of recent price moves. If the S&P 500 (VOO) looks very hot (>70), it splits equally into AGG (bonds), TMF (3x Treasuries), CURE (3x healthcare), UPW (2x utilities), and UYG (2x financials). If TQQQ (3x Nasdaq‑100) looks very cold (<30), it buys TQQQ. Otherwise, if VOO is neutral (40–60), it holds QYLD (covered‑call Nasdaq‑100); else it holds VOO.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample: ~34.5% annualized vs ~21.8% S&P; drawdown ~16.7% vs ~18.8%; Calmar ~2.07. A regime-switching, RSI-driven strategy seeks higher upside with tighter downside, albeit with leverage risk.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
