This strategy first checks whether the U.S. stock market is healthy by comparing SPY (a stand-in for the S&P 500) to its 100-day average price. If the market looks weak, it either hunts for a short-term bounce in beaten-down aggressive assets or buys whatever has been the strongest winner lately—even if that’s a market-crash fund. If the market looks healthy, it normally buys the strongest high-risk asset, but if speculation looks overheated, it temporarily switches into a volatility fund that can rise when stocks fall.
