About

A rules-based, Japan-focused strategy. In uptrends it rides 2x Japan; if it gets too hot, it briefly bets on volatility. In downtrends it rotates to short Japan, Treasuries, or Yen, with a small sleeve that parks in cash when volatility heats up.
NutHow it works
1) Is Japan in a long-term uptrend? (EWJ above its 200-day average) - Yes: Own EZJ (2x Japan). If Japan gets “too hot,” briefly switch to UVXY (a volatility play). - No: Turn defensive. A small sleeve (~15%) can move to cash when volatility heats up. The rest rotates into the strongest of short Japan (EWV), long Treasuries (TLT), or Yen (FXY), or back to EZJ if conditions improve.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample upside is compelling: ~71% annualized return vs ~25% for the S&P, with Calmar ~6.34 and Sharpe ~1.85. A trend/volatility-driven Japan strategy offers strong risk-adjusted gains and diversification beyond US stocks.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
