About

A tactical barbell: ride oil uptrends (NRGU/OILK or top oil stocks), rotate to clean energy (ICLN/TAN/FAN) when oil cools, and fall back to tech or Treasuries—while keeping ~55% in cash-like SHV. Uses trend and “hot/cold” signals to switch.
NutHow it works
Two sleeves: Oil (“Dirty”) and Clean Energy (“Green”). Each keeps ~55% in SHV (cash-like Treasuries). When crude (UCO/DBO) is rising, the Oil sleeve buys NRGU (3x big-oil note), OILK (oil futures) or top oil stocks (Exxon, Chevron, etc.); if weak, it may use NRGD (-3x inverse) or IEF (Treasuries). When oil cools, the Green sleeve buys ICLN/TAN/FAN (solar/wind) if trending. If neither looks good, it buys QQQ/XLK (tech) when markets are strong/oversold, else IEI (Treasuries). It uses trend lines (moving averages) and a hot/cold meter (RSI).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy delivers ~13.7% returns with ~3.6% max drawdown and Calmar ~3.86, plus a cash cushion—offering far tighter downside protection and solid risk-adjusted performance vs the S&P.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
