A tactical strategy that switches between defense stocks and energy stocks. If defense appears to be gaining short-term strength, it buys the 3 strongest defense-related names; otherwise it holds energy investments.

This strategy uses one market “thermometer”: ITA, a fund that holds U.S. aerospace and defense companies. If ITA has been doing better over the last 3 days than over the last 7 days, the strategy assumes defense is heating up. It then buys the 3 strongest investments from a defense-heavy watchlist, based on their performance over roughly the last 3 months. If not, it moves to an energy basket instead, spreading money across oil and energy-related holdings.
