About

A daily-rebalanced, trend-filtered strategy: in uptrends (SPY above its 200-day MA) invest 100% in 10 ETFs with inverse-volatility weights; in downtrends, switch to short-term Treasuries (BIL) for risk reduction.
NutHow it works
- Every day, check if SPY price is above its 200-day moving average (roughly: is the market in an uptrend?). If yes, allocate 100% of capital to 10 ETFs, weighting them by inverse volatility (less-volatile assets get more weight) using a 50-day lookback to estimate volatility. The ETFs cover large and small caps, value, dividends, and sector/commodity exposures (DIA, IWM, IWX, SCHD, ITA, GLD, VDE, XLE, XLI, XME). - If SPY is not above its 200-day moving average, allocate 100% of capital to BIL (a very short-term Treasuries ETF) to reduce risk and preserve capital. - The approach uses a single sleeve at a time (no mix of both) and rebalances daily to reflect new signals. Overall, it aims to ride ongoing uptrends with a diversified, relatively lower-volatility mix, and to protect on down days by moving into cash-like assets.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this daily-trend strategy uses inverse-volatility tilts and a BIL shield to ride uptrends and guard against drawdowns—offering steadier, potentially lower-risk returns versus the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
