About

A tactical utilities strategy that flips between XLU and a -2× inverse utilities fund (SDP) using trend filters and a “heat gauge” (RSI). In uptrends it holds XLU unless overheated; in downtrends it holds SDP unless washed out. Rebalanced daily.
NutHow it works
It holds one of two funds, rebalanced daily: XLU (owns U.S. utilities stocks) or SDP (moves about -2× utilities each day). It first checks the utilities trend using 100/50/10‑day averages. In uptrends it usually holds XLU, but if utilities look “too hot” by a heat gauge (RSI), it flips to SDP to bet on a pullback. In downtrends it usually holds SDP, but if utilities look “washed out” (RSI very low), it buys XLU for a bounce.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this trend-based utilities strategy beats the S&P: ~25.3% annual return vs 17.4%, max drawdown ~11.9% vs 18.8%, Sharpe ~1.35 vs ~0.93—more upside with less downside.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
