About

A daily trading strategy that flips between XLU (utilities) and SDP (a leveraged bet against utilities) based on trend direction and whether utilities look overheated or oversold.
NutHow it works
This strategy only trades the utilities sector using two funds: XLU (goes up when utility stocks rise) and SDP (a riskier fund that aims to go up when utility stocks fall, by about 2x on a daily basis). It first checks whether utilities are generally trending up or down using short- and long-term average prices. Then it uses a “temperature gauge” called RSI to see if utilities have moved too far too fast. If utilities look overheated, it switches to SDP. If they look beaten down, it buys XLU.
CheckmarkValue prop
Defensive, rules-based utilities strategy using XLU/SDP with daily rebalancing. Out-of-sample: about 8.95% annualized return, max drawdown ~15.4%, Calmar ~0.58, Sharpe ~0.55—offers better downside protection and risk-adjusted performance than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
