XLG Trend Cluster Strategy

About

Monthly trend-and-rotation in US stocks. If XLG is above its 163‑day average, own the single strongest growth cluster; if below, own the single strongest defensive cluster. Within that cluster, favor steadier names (or equal-weight).
NutHow it works
Each month it checks if the top‑50 U.S. stocks ETF (XLG) is in an uptrend (price above its ~8‑month average). If yes, it owns ONE “risk‑on” cluster with the strongest recent gains (a score that rises when prices have risen more than fallen): big‑tech/semis (NVDA/MSFT), growth ETFs (QQQM), broad mega/large ETFs (XLG/VOO), or defense/aerospace (LMT/NOC). Inside that cluster it favors steadier names. If not, it owns ONE defensive cluster: low‑vol ETFs (SPLV/USMV), Utilities (DUK/NEE), staples (WMT/PG), or dividend ETFs, split evenly inside it.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy delivers far stronger risk-adjusted returns than the S&P 500: annualized return ~80% vs ~10%, Sharpe ~3.28 vs ~0.96, Calmar ~17.6, max drawdown ~4.56%. Trend-driven mega-cap rotation captures leaders and defends in downturns.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
