About
A daily, rules‑based “gear‑shifting” portfolio: chase strong uptrends (often via leveraged tech/semis), hide in cash/treasuries or defensive assets when heat is high, and hedge or short using VIX/inverse ETFs when markets turn shaky.
Think of a car with gears. When the market is rising and calm, it presses the gas with growth/tech funds (often leveraged). If prices get “too hot,” it taps the brakes with cash-like T‑bill ETFs and short‑term hedges that benefit when fear jumps (VIX funds). If trends turn down, it downshifts into Treasuries, the US dollar, defensive sectors, or even short index funds. It repeats these checks and rebalances every day.
Out-of-sample shows negative returns (-21% annualized) and larger drawdowns (6.7%) versus the S&P 500. Use this as a volatility-hedging, multi-asset overlay to diversify risk and protect capital, not as a core equity replacement.
