About

A contrarian, high-risk strategy: when big tech or the S&P 500 looks extremely hot over a few days, it buys VIX-futures ETFs (UVXY/VIXY/VIXM); when they look washed out, it buys 3x bull funds (TECL/SPXL) or SVXY; otherwise it holds T‑Bills (BIL/BSV).
NutHow it works
It’s a short-term, contrarian timer. It uses a 10‑day “speedometer” (RSI): above ~80 = very hot; below ~30 = very cold. - If big tech/US market looks very hot (QQQ/XLK/VOOG/SPY or 3x versions), it buys volatility funds (UVXY/VIXY or tamer VIXM) expecting a pullback. - If very cold, it buys 3x bull tech/S&P funds (TECL/SPXL) or SVXY to catch a rebound. - Otherwise it parks in T‑Bills/short bonds (BIL/BSV). Most of the portfolio waits for extreme heat in TQQQ/SPXL, then hedges with volatility.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this contrarian strategy delivers 32.3% annualized return vs SPY's 21.3%, with lower max drawdown (18.4% vs 18.8%), strong Calmar (~1.75) and alpha (~0.15). It blends volatility hedges and 3x bulls for superior risk-adjusted upside.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
