About

Rules-based ETF strategy. Uses a 200‑day trend filter, RSI “heat” and recent pops/drops to rotate among leveraged tech, cash-like Treasuries, shorts, and volatility hedges. Optional VIX overlay aims to cut drawdowns. High risk due to 3x and VIX ETFs.
NutHow it works
1) Check if the S&P 500 (SPY) is above its 200‑day average (long‑term trend). • Uptrend: If stocks look “too hot” (RSI very high), briefly hedge/short (UVXY/SQQQ). Otherwise favor tech (TECL) unless short‑term Treasuries look better. • Downtrend: “Buy dips, sell rips.” After sharp pops, briefly short or buy volatility; otherwise blend tech/semis with T‑bills/TIPS, picking whichever is more beaten‑down (lower RSI). • When considering a short, it first checks the US dollar and gold; if they’re stronger, it may choose them instead. Optional “VIXen” adds a volatility sleeve: long VIX when markets are euphoric, short VIX/long bonds when calm. Notes: RSI is a 0–100 “heat” score of recent moves (>80 hot, <30 cold). 200‑day avg = long‑term trend. 3x ETFs magnify daily moves (higher risk). VIX funds track market fear.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample: ~56% annualized return vs SPY ~22%; Calmar ~1.53. Higher upside from trend-driven tech rotation with optional VIX hedges, but drawdowns can reach ~37%. A growth-focused, risk-managed alternative to SPY.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
