About

A fast-moving, high-risk strategy that swings between leveraged tech bets, bearish hedges, volatility funds, bonds, dollar, and gold based on whether the market looks strong, weak, overheated, or deeply sold off.
NutHow it works
This strategy first asks: is the U.S. stock market in a healthy long-term uptrend or not? It uses SPY (a stand-in for the S&P 500) for that. If the market looks strong, it usually owns aggressive tech funds like TQQQ, but if stocks look too hot after a sharp run-up, it shifts into crash-protection funds like SQQQ or UVXY. If the market looks weak, it becomes more defensive, mixes in short-term bonds, and sometimes tries to buy sharp dips in tech or the S&P 500 for a rebound. It also compares safe-haven choices like Treasury bonds, the U.S. dollar, and gold against bearish stock funds. About 26% of the portfolio runs a separate “VIXen” side strategy that watches market stress and can move into volatility funds, Treasury-bond trades, or occasionally semiconductors.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample return ~50% vs SPY ~21%; Calmar ~1.63 and Sharpe ~1.30 show solid risk-adjusted upside. Diversified tech/volatility bets seek bigger gains, with ~31% max drawdown—best for risk-tolerant, growth-seekers.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
