About

A volatility-guided, momentum-based pick-a-single-ETF approach that switches between levered tech exposures and Treasury ETFs, using a 21-day RSI to pick the most oversold asset within each branch and aiming to stay mostly in cash unless conditions favor one asset.
NutHow it works
V1d Fund Surfing uses two conditional rules that decide where to put your money. First, it looks at the recent volatility of the broad market (SPY) over about three weeks. If volatility is relatively low (below a small threshold), it picks the one asset among TECL, TQQQ, and IEF that looks most oversold and allocates to that asset with equal weight alongside cash. If volatility is higher, it shifts to SHY instead. A second, similar rule runs in parallel with a slightly different asset pool (TECL, TQQQ, SHY) and uses the same “most oversold” idea to pick one asset; if volatility is not low enough, the branch instead puts you into TLT (long-duration Treasuries). In short: two small rule sets watch volatility and a momentum signal (RSI over 21 days) to pick a single ETF, then spread weight evenly across the chosen asset and cash. The strategy does not rebalance on a fixed schedule; it relies on the condition changes to prompt a move, with a 5% corridor idea governing weight drift.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this volatility-guided momentum strategy delivers higher risk-adjusted returns (Sharpe ~1.43 vs SPY ~1.40) and outsized upside (~64% annualized) by dynamically switching between leveraged tech ETFs and Treasuries with cash ballast.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
