A weekly “market weather” strategy: if fear surges, move to the U.S. dollar; if conditions look healthy, buy the strongest large U.S. stocks; if not, rotate into bonds and commodity-related holdings.

Each week, the strategy asks 2 questions: 1) Has market fear spiked sharply? If yes, it hides in USDU, a fund that rises with a stronger U.S. dollar. 2) If not, has TIP (an inflation-protected Treasury bond fund) been rising over the past 3 months? If yes, it buys the strongest big U.S. stocks. If not, it shifts into the strongest mix of commodity-related assets and bond funds.

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
