About
Trades stock‑market volatility around SPY using simple signals. In uptrends it often shorts volatility (SVIX); during stress it buys volatility (VXX/UVXY) or anti‑beta (BTAL). In downtrends it shifts to BTAL, T‑bills, gold, energy, and commodities to keep correlation low.
Step 1: Check SPY’s trend (above/below its 50‑day average).
- Uptrend: Use simple “speed” gauges (RSI, short EMAs) to decide if vol is likely to calm or spike. If calm: hold SVIX (profits when volatility falls). If stress: rotate into VXX/UVXY (benefit from vol spikes) or BTAL (anti‑beta).
- Downtrend: Avoid stocks; favor BTAL plus T‑bills (BIL/SHV), gold (GLD), energy (XLE), and commodities (COM). Rebalanced daily.
Out-of-sample, this strategy offers higher risk-adjusted returns than the S&P 500: oos Sharpe ~1.40 vs 1.36, annualized ~55% vs 22%, Calmar ~2.69, and very low beta (~0.13), plus diversified, low‑correlation exposure.
