About

A daily, rule‑based short‑vol strategy. It mainly holds SVXY after market dips when volatility is likely to cool, but can switch to VIX funds (VIXY/UVXY), SPY/XLK, or T‑Bills (SHV) based on simple overbought/oversold signals and a trend filter.
NutHow it works
Goal: profit when market calm returns by shorting volatility (SVXY). Uses ETFs: SVXY (short VIX), VIXY/UVXY (long VIX), SPY=S&P 500, QQQ=Nasdaq‑100, XLK=tech, SHV=T‑Bills. First, it checks if volatility (via VIXY) looks high. If high, it plays defense: only buys SVXY after extreme stock weakness; may briefly buy volatility (UVXY/VIXY) if stocks look overheated; or parks in SHV. If volatility is normal, it more readily buys SVXY after dips in SPY/QQQ. A simple RSI gauge (0–100: low=washed out, high=overheated) and a 21‑day trend check on SVXY gate risk. Rebalanced daily.
CheckmarkValue prop
Volatility-timing ballast with a ~0.94 beta, aiming to diversify beyond SPY. Out-of-sample: Sharpe ~0.49 and Calmar ~0.35; annualized return ~8.9% vs SPY's ~22.8%. Offers risk-aware exposure and a regime-driven hedge when markets swing.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
