A market-timing strategy that shifts between diversified stock funds in good times and aggressive leveraged or defensive positions when markets weaken.

This strategy first asks: is the U.S. stock market healthy or struggling? It uses SPY, a fund that tracks the S&P 500, as its thermometer. If the market looks healthy, it owns a mix of U.S. dividend stocks, U.S. growth stocks, small-company stocks, and international stocks. If the market looks unusually hot, it adds either long-term Treasury bonds or a volatility fund as protection. If the market looks weak, it becomes much more tactical: it may buy aggressive 3x bullish funds on sharp selloffs, or shift into defensive choices like inverse Nasdaq funds or bonds.
