About

A dynamic, semiconductors-focused strategy using trend, momentum, dip-buying, and volatility hedges; it can tilt toward the top semiconductor names and shift to bonds/cash when volatility rises.
NutHow it works
Goal: invest in semiconductors in normal markets, with hedges for volatility. When SMH trades above SPY’s long-term trend, a MACD/momentum check helps time entries. If SMH dips under its short-term moving average, the strategy adds to positions (buy the dip). In the strongest version, it ranks the 19 largest semis by 50-day return and overweights the top 5. If market volatility rises, about half the capital moves into bonds/cash and select hedges (UVXY, VIXY, SOXS, SSG) may be used. There is no fixed rebalancing date; weights drift within a 5% corridor and are adjusted when signals change. The core universe includes SMH plus individual semiconductors; hedges use related ETFs such as SOXL/SOXS, UVXY, SHY, TMF, UUP, VIXY, XLP, SPLV.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample edge: ~39.6% annualized return vs SPY's ~20.4%, driven by a semiconductors tilt with trend/momentum and hedges (bonds, UVXY/VIXY). Higher upside, plus built-in protection in volatile markets.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
