About

A simple 90% U.S. stocks (via SPY) + 10% gold (via GLD) portfolio. Rebalanced once a year to keep those targets. Aims to capture stock growth while gold adds a potential cushion during market stress.
NutHow it works
Put 90% in SPY (tracks the 500 biggest U.S. companies—think Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc.) and 10% in GLD (tracks the price of gold). Hold. Once a year, sell a bit of what grew more and buy the other to get back to 90% stocks / 10% gold.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, a 90/10 SPY/GLD mix offers higher risk-adjusted returns (OOS Sharpe 1.27 vs 1.08), higher annualized return (19.8% vs 17.9%), and smaller drawdowns (16.6% vs 18.8%), delivering smoother growth than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
