This strategy first asks: “Is the U.S. stock market in a healthy uptrend?” It checks the S&P 500 using several smoothed price trends. If yes, it simply owns SPY, which tracks the S&P 500. If not, it gets defensive: it may buy Treasuries (IEI, SHV), consumer staples (XLP), or make tactical bets on tech/Nasdaq using funds that rise when tech rises—or even when it falls.
