About

A simple S&P 500 switch: usually long SPY, but it uses SH (the inverse S&P 500 fund) after sharp short-term rallies or during bear‑market bounces. Decisions use a 200‑day trend filter, 10‑day return thresholds, and a 5‑day average check.
NutHow it works
It flips between two funds tied to the S&P 500: SPY (goes up with the market) and SH (goes up when the market falls). 1) If SPY is above its 200‑day average: hold SPY, unless SPY jumped >5% in ~10 days—then hold SH briefly to guard against a pullback. 2) If SPY is below its 200‑day average: if it fell >4% in ~10 days, hold SPY (bet on a bounce). Otherwise, if price just moved above its 5‑day average, hold SH (fade the bounce); else hold SPY.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy trims downside and smooths growth: drawdown 13.1% vs 18.8% for SPY, Calmar ~1.14, alpha positive, beta ~0.63. You gain risk-adjusted exposure with less downside and steadier returns.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
