This portfolio puts 65% into income-producing stock funds and 35% into bonds. If the U.S. stock market (tracked by SPY, an S&P 500 fund) looks healthy—its recent average price is above its longer-term average—it splits the stock portion across dividend stocks and real estate funds. If the market trend weakens, it moves that 65% into very short-term U.S. Treasuries (SHV) for safety.
