About

A rules-based, sleep‑at‑night portfolio that shifts among tech‑heavy stocks, Treasuries/cash, defensive sectors, gold, managed futures (KMLM), and hedges (short QQQ/volatility) using simple “heat” and trend checks, plus an inflation‑sensitive EM sleeve.
NutHow it works
Rules-based mix that flips offense/defense using simple gauges: - RSI (0–100 heat meter: >80 overheated, <30 washed‑out), trend (50/200‑day avgs) and volatility. - Cold: buy US stocks—often tech (QQQ; sometimes TQQQ/TECL/SOXL)—with Treasuries/cash ballast (TLT/BIL). - Hot/shaky: shift to Treasuries/cash, staples/utilities (XLP/VPU), gold/miners (GLD/GDX), or hedges (PSQ, VIXY). - Rising inflation: tactically own/short emerging markets (EEM/EEV). - If tech lags KMLM (managed‑futures), rotate into KMLM or a long/short mix. - Trades on signal flips; leveraged/vol ETFs can swing.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy offers sleep-at-night risk: drawdown ~9.6% vs 12.1%, beta ~0.85, Calmar ~2.79, plus hedges (KMLM, VIX, bonds, gold, EM). Return ~26.7% vs 32.5% (S&P), but far stronger risk-adjusted, smoother ride.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
