About half the portfolio sits in Costco and UnitedHealth. The other half is a fast-moving trading sleeve that first asks: is the overall U.S. market healthy or weak? If healthy, it mainly buys Nasdaq/tech funds, using more or less leverage depending on how overheated the market looks. If things look too euphoric, it can switch to a volatility hedge. If weak, it becomes defensive with cash-like funds, short-term bonds, or bearish bets against tech—but it may also buy a sharp tech rebound after a big drop.

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
