About
Daily, 50/50 cash-to-asset strategy that triggers a 2x Nasdaq ETF (QLD) on either SPY trend or oversold QQQ momentum; otherwise shifts to a bond fund (VBF) for risk control.
On each trading day:
1) Check two conditions using SPY and QQQ data.
2) If SPY’s 21-day moving average is above SPY’s 210-day moving average, buy ProShares Ultra QQQ 2x (QLD) with half your money, and keep the other half in cash.
3) If the SPY condition isn’t met, check QQQ’s momentum: if the QQQ RSI (using 10-day and 31-day windows) is below 30, buy QLD with half your money; otherwise allocate the other half to the Invesco Bond Fund (VBF).
4) Rebalance daily to maintain a 50/50 cash-to-asset split.
5) If QLD is held, you’re effectively leveraging Nasdaq-100 exposure (2x), which magnifies both gains and losses. If VBF is held, you have a safer, bond-based allocation instead of equity leverage.
Notes: SPY, QQQ, QLD, and VBF are specific ETFs; 2x leverage implies higher risk; the strategy is described as backtested starting 6/21/2006.
Out-of-sample, this strategy outperforms the S&P 500 on risk-adjusted and upside: Sharpe 3.20 vs 2.53, Calmar 19.5, alpha ~0.22, annualized return ~121% vs ~30%. It uses a disciplined 50/50 cash-to-asset rule, switching to bonds when signals weaken to curb risk.
