A monthly rule-based portfolio that mixes a big defensive core with smaller tactical bets on the S&P 500, Bitcoin, gold, the U.S. dollar, and bonds depending on market conditions.

This portfolio checks the market once a month and shifts money based on simple rules. About 70% focuses on stock-market risk: if “junk bonds” are acting stronger than cash, it buys the S&P 500; if not, it moves toward safer assets like Treasurys, gold, the U.S. dollar, and consumer staples. The other 30% is more aggressive. If the broad bond market looks healthy, it picks either Bitcoin (through GBTC) or a strong-U.S.-dollar fund based on which has the better recent trend. If bonds look weak, it instead picks the most beaten-down asset from a mixed list including gold, tech stocks, volatility, dollar strength, and bond-related funds.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
