About
A daily, regime-driven dip-buy strategy using a scaled-in, leveraged QQQ bet (QLD) during dips in bull markets, with a hedged approach (SHY) in bear markets. Allocation between QLD and SPY (and SHY in bear) follows a 10-day RSI signal on QQQ, stepped through a ladder from full QLD to full SPY, to capture profits from dips while aiming to control risk.
- Check market regime: is SPY above its 200-day moving average? If yes, use the Bull Market Dip Buys path; if no, use the Bear Market Dip Buying path.
- Bull path: Use a ladder that scales between ProShares Ultra QQQ (QLD) and SPY based on QQQ’s 10-day RSI. The deeper the dip (lower RSI), the more weight to QLD; as RSI rises, shift toward SPY. The weights move through steps like 100/0, 75/25, 50/50, … down to 0/100.
- Bear path: Similar ladder between QLD and SPY, but with an added SHY hedge. Higher SHY exposure reduces risk during downturns while still maintaining some QLD/SPY tilt according to RSI thresholds.
- Rebalance daily and adjust according to the current regime and RSI signal.
- Tickers involved: QQQ (underlying tech exposure), QLD (2x QQQ), SPY (broad market), SHY (short-term Treasuries).
Out-of-sample, this strategy outperforms the S&P on risk-adjusted return: 25.2% annual vs 21.1%, max drawdown 10.5% vs 18.8%, Calmar ~2.41, Sharpe ~1.34, beta ~0.94. Regime-driven dip buys with hedging.
