A defensive strategy with a risky twist: it mostly hides in safer assets, but buys sharp dips in leveraged stock funds and uses volatility products as crash protection.

This strategy has two jobs: stay defensive most of the time, and aggressively buy sharp market dips. It checks daily for signs of panic or oversold conditions. If fear is extreme, it moves part of the portfolio into UVXY, a fund that usually rises when markets panic. Otherwise, if tech, the S&P 500, or chip stocks have fallen hard recently, it buys leveraged versions of them. If neither happens, it sits in a defensive mix of gold, staples, managed futures, the U.S. dollar, short-term Treasuries, and some volatility hedges.

Out-of-sample upside: ~31.7% annualized vs 21.3% for the S&P, with solid risk-adjusted metrics (Calmar ~1.29, Sharpe ~1.09) and beta ~0.9. A defensive core plus dip-buying and crisis hedges target higher, steadier returns than the S&P.
