A defensive, contrarian strategy: buy QQQ or SPY after sharp short-term selloffs, but otherwise hide in bonds or defensive sectors—usually choosing the most recently beaten-down option.

This strategy checks whether the stock market looks unusually beaten down or unusually overheated over the last 10 trading days. If tech stocks look sharply sold off, it buys QQQ. If the broader U.S. market looks sharply sold off, it buys SPY. If the market looks overheated, it moves into a defensive list of utilities, consumer staples, and bond funds, then buys the one that has fallen the most recently. Otherwise, it stays in bond funds and buys the bond fund that has fallen the most recently.
