This strategy first asks: are bonds acting healthy or weak? That sets a “risk-on” or “risk-off” mode. In risk-on mode, it aggressively trades tech-heavy funds like TQQQ and semiconductor funds (SOXL/SOXS), using simple tests for “too hot,” “too cold,” or “falling apart.” In risk-off mode, it shifts toward safer or defensive areas like Treasury bills, bonds, the U.S. dollar, utilities, staples, and hedges—while also adjusting for whether interest rates are rising or falling.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
