An aggressive market-timing strategy: buy recently beaten-up 2x stock funds when bond conditions look healthy, otherwise move to the dollar, gold, or defensive stocks.

This strategy first asks: “Have US bonds been doing well lately?” If yes, it goes into a more aggressive mode and spreads money across 4 of 7 funds that have been the weakest recently, betting they may bounce back. If bonds have not been doing well, it turns defensive. If long-term Treasury bonds are also falling, it hides in the US dollar. If they are stable or rising, it splits between gold and a defensive consumer-goods stock fund.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
