About

A simple “risk-on/risk-off” plan: when the U.S. market’s long-term trend is up, hold two preferred‑stock funds plus gold in equal parts; when the trend weakens, move entirely to short‑term U.S. Treasury bills to protect capital.
NutHow it works
1) Check the U.S. stock market’s trend: is SPY’s price above its average over the last ~1 year (250 trading days)? 2) If yes, split the money about 1/3 each into: VRP (variable‑rate preferred stocks), PFFA (U.S. preferred stocks), and GLD (gold). 3) If no, hold BIL (short‑term U.S. T‑bills).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample edge: ~32.68% annualized return with ~4.12% max drawdown, Sharpe 4.07 vs SPY 1.41, Calmar ~7.94. Higher risk-adjusted gains and far stronger downside protection than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
