A concentrated Pershing Square-style stock portfolio that usually stays long, adds a volatility hedge when markets look overheated, and can switch into aggressive leveraged bullish or bearish index trades when risk signals worsen.

Most of the time, this strategy owns a hand-picked stock basket based on Pershing Square’s public holdings: Google, Hilton, Chipotle, Restaurant Brands, Nike and a few others. If the market looks unusually overheated, it keeps those stocks but adds 20% to UVXY, a fund that tends to jump when fear spikes. If a shipping-market signal turns weak and stocks aren’t deeply oversold, it switches into aggressive short-term bets using leveraged bullish or bearish funds tied mainly to the Nasdaq and S&P 500.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
