About
A market-timing strategy that uses SPY’s recent momentum to switch between a 9-stock portfolio, cash-like T-bills, a volatility surge bet, or a leveraged S&P 500 rebound bet.
The strategy watches SPY, a popular fund that tracks the S&P 500, and asks: has the market moved up or down too far, too fast?
If SPY looks extremely overheated, it buys UVXY, a fund that tends to jump when market fear rises.
If SPY looks heavily beaten down, it buys UPRO, a fund that makes a big bullish bet on an S&P 500 rebound.
If SPY is somewhat overheated, it hides in short-term Treasury bills through BIL.
Otherwise, it spreads money evenly across 9 large U.S. stocks.
Out-of-sample, this market-timing strategy targets ~38% annualized return with a Sharpe ~1.36 and Calmar ~1.16, beating SPY’s ~19.7% return and Sharpe ~1.29. Higher upside with robust risk-adjusted strength, though drawdowns can reach ~33%.
