About
A fast-moving oil trading strategy that buys sharp oil dips, owns oil in strong markets, turns bearish when oil weakens, and moves to T-bills when conditions look poor.
This strategy makes short-term bets on oil.
If oil has just fallen very hard, it buys an aggressive oil fund (UCO) hoping for a rebound.
If not, it checks whether emerging-markets stocks are very strong; if they are, it buys an oil fund tied to Brent crude (BNO).
Otherwise, it follows oil’s trend: own DBO when the trend looks healthy, bet against oil with SCO when the trend weakens, or sit in Treasury bills (BIL) when oil looks weak overall.
Out-of-sample edge: 22.46% annualized vs 21.74% for the S&P 500, with negative beta (~-0.93) offering diversification. Higher upside from oil regimes and flexible risk controls—note the larger drawdowns (~40%).
