About

An aggressive market-timing strategy that usually chases US stocks with leverage, but can retreat to cash-like Treasury bills, volatility protection, or a bearish hedge when markets look overheated or weak.
NutHow it works
This strategy constantly asks: is the stock market healthy, overheated, or in trouble? If conditions look good, it often buys SPXL, a fund that aims to move about 3 times as much as the S&P 500 in a day. If tech looks especially beaten down, it may buy TECL, a similar high-octane technology fund. If the market looks too hot after a sharp rise, it shifts into a mix of BIL (very short-term Treasury bills, basically a cash parking spot) and VXX, a product that tends to rise when market fear jumps. If conditions are weak or unclear, it may move to BIL, or sometimes SH, a fund designed to go up when the S&P 500 falls. To make these calls, it uses recent price behavior: whether markets have risen or fallen very quickly, and whether stock prices are above or below longer-term trend lines.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this market-timing strategy delivers far higher upside with similar/better risk-adjusted returns: ~46% annualized vs ~16% for SPY, Sharpe ~1.02 vs ~0.99, but deeper drawdowns (~40% vs ~19%).

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
