About
A monthly “risk on/risk off” strategy that uses growth-stock trend as its traffic light, then rotates among momentum stocks, gold, Treasuries, and managed futures based on which mix has been strongest recently.
Each month, the strategy checks whether VUG (a fund of fast-growing U.S. companies) is trading above its average price over the last 3, 6, and 10 months.
If growth stocks look strong, it holds a mix led by SPMO (U.S. momentum stocks) and KMLM (managed futures), with smaller positions in gold and Treasury bonds. If that trend weakens, it shifts toward safer assets like gold, Treasuries, or KMLM, favoring whichever mix had the best recent 6‑month performance.
Out-of-sample results show this strategy underperforming the S&P 500 and carrying higher drawdowns. It’s best used as a diversification overlay for risk-tolerant investors seeking regime-driven hedges (gold, managed futures) rather than core equity exposure.
