About

Daily momentum screen selects top 2 stocks from a big-name universe. If momentum rules pass, it funds a fixed ETF basket (SCHD/JPST/BIL in 30/40/30) to capture upside with risk control, rebalancing daily.
NutHow it works
How it works for a layperson - Every day, the system looks at a list of well-known stocks (like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Nvidia, etc.). - It checks which stocks have performed best over the last 20 days and picks the top 2 performers. - For each of those top candidates, it tests momentum signals using two ideas: the RSI indicator (a gauge of how “overbought” or “oversold” a stock is) and price trends based on simple moving averages (short-term and longer-term trends). Specifically, it looks for RSI to be between 38 and 90 and for the price trend to be favorable (short-term momentum is above longer-term momentum). - If a stock passes these momentum signals, the strategy uses a fixed basket of three safe-ish ETFs to represent the exposure rather than buying the stock itself: SCHD (a dividend-focused stock ETF), JPST (short-term bonds), and BIL (very short-term U.S. Treasuries). The target mix is 30% SCHD, 40% JPST, 30% BIL. - This results in a diversified exposure that aims to capture upside from strong stock momentum while reducing risk with bond and cash-like exposure. The plan is to rebalance every day so the exposure remains aligned with the latest momentum signals. - The overall aim is to keep the strategy simple to execute (daily rules, fixed ETF mix) while providing a tilt toward momentum in equities but with a protective ballast to cushion drawdowns.
CheckmarkValue prop
Potentially higher upside: out-of-sample annualized return ~35% vs S&P 500 ~20%. Calmar ~2.69 signals strong risk-adjusted payoff, with a ballast of SCHD/JPST/BIL that reduces single-stock risk. Accept higher drawdowns for bigger long-term gains.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
