A monthly, defensive “follow what’s working” strategy that shifts between global growth assets and safer Treasuries/cash-like T-bills based on recent 30-day performance.

Once a month, the strategy checks which major asset groups have been rising over the last 30 days. If both emerging-market stocks (EEM) and the broad bond market proxy (AGG) look healthy, it fully invests in the 5 strongest assets from a mixed list of U.S./international stocks, real estate, Treasury bonds, commodities, and gold. If conditions are weaker, it puts 50% in those 5 strongest assets and 50% in safer U.S. Treasury bonds (IEF), or in very short-term T-bills (BIL) if bonds are also weak. If conditions are poor, it moves fully into IEF or BIL for defense.

Out-of-sample edge: Sharpe 1.55 vs 1.31, drawdown 7.1% vs 13.7%, Calmar 2.35. A risk-controlled, globally diversified strategy using momentum to tilt between stocks, bonds and real assets—stronger downside protection than the S&P 500.
