About
A 4-gear market-timing strategy that goes aggressive in strong markets, buys dips, cuts risk when stocks look overheated, and hides in Treasury bills or a small bearish fund in weak markets.
This strategy has 4 “gears.” First it asks: is the U.S. stock market in a healthy long-term uptrend? If yes, it usually buys two aggressive stock funds: one tied to the S&P 500 (SSO) and one tied to the Nasdaq-100 tech index (QLD).
If stocks have fallen hard but the long-term trend still looks healthy, it treats that as a dip and buys those aggressive funds anyway. If the market looks too overheated, it cools down by holding half in SPY (a normal S&P 500 fund) and half in BIL, a very short-term Treasury-bill fund that acts like a safe parking spot.
If the market is not in a healthy uptrend, it mostly moves to BIL for safety. After a short-lived bounce in a weak market, it adds a smaller position in SDS, a fund that rises when the S&P 500 falls.
Four-gear market-timing overlay: leveraged uptrends (SSO/QLD) with BIL/SDS hedges. Seeks upside in bull markets and faster dip-buying with risk controls. However, out-of-sample shows negative return (-37%), higher drawdown (8.93%) vs SPY (2.72%).
