About

A rules-based retirement mix: 50% growth that leans into stocks when calm and goes defensive in turmoil; 25% bond/income sleeve using stability and momentum; 25% capital preservation via gold and trend winners. Uses volatility, trend, and buy-the-dip checks.
NutHow it works
Portfolio = 50% Growth, 25% Yield, 25% Preservation. Growth: If stock volatility (how bumpy prices are) is low, hold QQQ or SPY (decided by a simple bond-vs-cash signal). If volatility is high, buy QQQ only on a sharp short‑term dip; otherwise use a defensive mix (SHY, SPY, BTAL, GLD, XLP). Yield: Rules-based bond mix: steadier funds get more weight, long Treasuries only when calm, and top recent performers; plus some IEI. Preservation: Always some gold, plus a trend sleeve picking recent winners among SPY, TLT, GLD, commodities (DBC), the US dollar (UUP), and cash (SHV).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample edge: Sharpe ~1.85 vs 1.44, drawdowns ~7.3% vs ~18.8%, Calmar ~2.85. A volatility-aware, rule-based, multi-asset mix that aims for smoother growth and better downside protection than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
