About

A rules‑based 40/30/30 portfolio. Growth rides Nasdaq‑100 (often via 2x QLD) unless volatility spikes, then defends or buys deep dips. Yield mixes bonds and uses 3x Treasuries when calm; otherwise defensive. Preservation holds gold and trends into recent winners.
NutHow it works
Three sleeves: • Growth (40%): Rides the Nasdaq‑100 (QQQ; QLD=2x). If the S&P 500 is calm (low volatility), favor QLD; if jumpy, hold SPY or a defensive mix—unless tech is very oversold (RSI: quick overbought/oversold score; low=big drop), then buy the dip. • Yield (30%): Mix of Treasuries (short to long, incl. TLT) and corporates (LQD/HYG). Uses TMF (3x long Treasuries) when bond volatility is low; otherwise leans to gold (GLD), staples (XLP) and the U.S. dollar (UUP). Also picks recent 3–4‑month winners among TLT/GLD/UUP/HYG/SHV. • Preservation (30%): Holds some gold and a simple trend sleeve that owns recent 4‑month winners among SPY, TLT, GLD/DBC, UUP, or SHV. Key terms: volatility=how jumpy; drawdown=biggest recent drop; inverse‑vol weighting=give more to steadier assets.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample edge: higher Sharpe (1.92 vs 1.44), higher annualized return (27.68% vs 23.11%), and smaller max drawdown (9.39% vs 18.76%), with lower beta (~0.70). Steadier growth vs the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
