About
A daily-rebalanced, gold-centric strategy that uses moving-average and momentum signals to tilt between GLD, gold miners, and defensive or alternative assets, with multiple layered rules (RSI, SMA crossovers, and frontrunner momentum) to time exposure and manage risk.
- Every day: evaluate several groups that decide how heavily to tilt toward gold vs. cash/defense vs. gold-miners and leveraged gold plays.
- Core signals come from: (1) price relative to moving averages (is GLD price above its longer-term average?), (2) momentum gauges (RSI-like readings on GLD and related ETFs), and (3) relative performance (which assets have higher cumulative returns over set windows).
- If gold looks strong (price above a moving average and momentum high), the system allocates to GLD or related long exposure (e.g., UGL, NUGT) and may reduce exposure to hedges. If gold looks weak or overextended, it shifts toward cash or hedged/defensive assets (e.g., SHY, UUP, BIL) or into inverse/short gold vehicles (e.g., GLL, JDST) as a hedge.
- A “frontrunner” module picks the best-performing asset among a small pool (e.g., SHV, UUP, GLD) by momentum, and weights it into the mix.
- Additional blocks look at longer gold-term SMAs (e.g., 200-day) and gold RSI mean-reversion signals to establish alternate pathways (e.g., Gold 200d SMA, Gold RSI mean reversion clusters) that can override or supplement the core signals.
- The final allocation is a blended mix across several groups, with explicit weights (for example, 10%–60% in gold-related baskets, rest in cash/defense or alternative exposures).
- Rebalancing is daily, and the instrument list includes GLD, GLL, UGL, NUGT, GDX, JDST, SHY, UUP, BIL, and selected equity proxies and volatility/variance ETFs to complete the risk diversification.
Out-of-sample edge: Sharpe ~2.92 vs 1.30, annualized return ~91% vs ~27%, max drawdown ~9% vs ~14%, Calmar ~10, and beta ~0.15. A gold-centric, risk-controlled strategy with stronger upside and diversification vs the S&P 500.
