A high-risk market-timing strategy that buys beaten-down leveraged U.S. stock funds in calm markets, buys dips in rougher markets, and shifts to Treasuries, gold, the dollar, or defensive stocks when conditions worsen.
NutHow it works
This strategy has two halves that are averaged together, which helps smooth decisions. When the S&P 500 is relatively calm, each half buys whichever looks most beaten-down lately: a 3x S&P fund (UPRO), a 3x Nasdaq fund (TQQQ), or short-term Treasury bonds (SHY). When markets get choppier, it switches modes. In bigger downturns, it tries to buy sharp stock-market dips, but avoids jumping in after a huge one-day rebound. In healthier markets, it uses a leveraged stock-plus-bond mix (UPRO/TQQQ with TMF). If short-term stress rises, it hides in a defensive mix of the U.S. dollar (UUP), gold (GLD), and consumer staples stocks (XLP).

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
