About

Rules-based, tactical rotation that rides tech uptrends (QQQ), buys sharp dips, and hedges selloffs with VIX funds and a defensive core (BTAL). Uses a 200‑day trend filter, RSI “hot/cold” checks, and a volatility-spike switch. 80% dynamic, 20% BTAL.
NutHow it works
It’s a rulebook that rotates among a few buckets based on simple “heat/cold” and trend checks. - Trend: If the S&P 500 (SPY) is above its 200‑day average, risk‑on is allowed; below it, hedge/cash is favored. - Heat/cold: RSI is a 0–100 speedometer. Very hot (>~80) → buy volatility hedges (VXX/UVXY/VIXY). Very cold (<~30) → buy QQQ for a rebound. - Vol spike: If a VIX fund (VIXY) surges fast, it moves mostly into BTAL (defensive), with a small long‑vol slice and sometimes PSQ (short QQQ). - KMLM: a managed‑futures fund used as a macro tie‑breaker (its 20‑day average helps decide risk‑on vs risk‑off in a few rules). - It spreads 80% across the 5 sub‑models with the best recent stability and keeps 20% in BTAL. It trades only when rules flip.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample edge: smaller max drawdown (6.5% vs 18.8%), solid Calmar ~0.96, and hedges for spikes. SPY may chase bigger upside, but this strategy delivers steadier downside protection with durable returns.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
