About

A high-risk, momentum-driven, multi-basket allocation using leveraged equity ETFs and volatility hedges to chase upside while attempting to protect against volatility spikes.
NutHow it works
Starts by splitting capital into three baskets: Aggressive D/R, Safe D/R, and Split Popped. Within each basket, it uses RSI momentum signals on broad market/sector ETFs (QQQ, XLK, SPY, VOOG, etc.) to decide whether to buy volatility hedges (UVXY, VIXY, VIXM), leverage plays (TECL, SPXL), or safer assets (BSV, BIL). It tends to select a single asset per sub-basket by ranking candidates with a top/bottom RSI filter over a 10-day window, sometimes using a cumulative-return check for volatility exposure in the QQQs block. There is no ongoing auto-rebalancing; a narrow corridor (about 1%) governs whether to adjust allocations. The overall aim is to ride upside with leverage where momentum confirms strength while seeking volatility hedges during spikes, accepting high risk due to leveraged and VIX-focused positions.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy beats SPY on return (≈24.5% vs 21.5%), with lower beta (~0.85), smaller drawdown (18.41% vs 18.76%), and solid risk-adjusted gains (Calmar ≈1.33). Momentum plus volatility hedges seek upside while dampening spikes.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
