About

Mostly holds SPY but watches a market “fear gauge” (VIXM) and gold. If fear rises, it moves to short‑term Treasuries; in sudden panics it may briefly bet against an overheated gold spike. Calibrated on 2015/2018 events; limited help in 2020.
NutHow it works
Checks a “fear gauge” ETF (VIXM) each day. Default: own SPY (US stocks). - If fear has stayed high (40‑day surge), park in SHY (1‑3yr Treasuries) for ~5 days. - Else if fear just spiked (14‑day surge): if gold (GLD) just ran hot, briefly bet on a pullback via GLL (goes up when gold falls, ~2×); otherwise sit in SHY. Tickers: SPY=stocks, SHY=short‑term bonds, GLD=gold, GLL=short gold, VIXM=fear gauge.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample Sharpe ~1.36 with ~21.5% annualized return and ~18.7% max drawdown. Mostly SPY, but shifts to SHY on fear spikes and briefly shorts gold on panics—crash-aware edge vs. the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
