Step 1: Check if the broad market is healthy (long‑term trend up). If yes, stay risk‑on; if not, go defensive. Step 2 (risk‑on): If the market looks “too hot,” use short/volatility ETFs as a hedge. Otherwise, hold exactly one big tech stock—the one trending well but not overheated. If a name is very “washed out,” temporarily overweight it. Step 3 (defensive): Park in T‑Bills/bonds/gold or short the Nasdaq—whichever looks stronger short‑term.
